Full Job Description
Job Description
Community Justice Placement Co-ordinator
What is Community Justice?
Community justice is where people who have broken the law are held to account and supported to reconnect and contribute to their communities. Where it is safe to do so, people who commit certain crimes receive community-based sentences. These community-based sentences can include treatment for underlying issues such as drug or alcohol addiction, unpaid work, fines and compensation or restrictions of liberty such as electronic tagging and curfews. The evidence shows that community justice can help people stop breaking the law again, leading to fewer victims and safer communities.
As a Community Justice Placement Coordinator with West Dunbartonshire Council HSCP Justice Services, you will source, develop, assess and timetable a variety of tasks for people who have been convicted of crimes and given an Unpaid Work Requirement as part of their Community Payback Order, to complete their Unpaid Work hours for our local community benefit.
The types of work carried out by people on Unpaid Work can vary, but examples of the kind of work you could be coordinating are: • Litter picking • Gardening, hedge cutting, mowing & strimming • Working on allotments and in polytunnels to grow fruit & vegetables • Painting, internally & externally • Laying paths & slabbing • Maintaining core paths • Snow clearing/gritting • Joinery work • Furniture restoration • Fencing • Power washing & graffiti removal • Food parcel deliveries
You will be responsible for robustly assessing tasks/projects, ensuring that they adhere to Health and Safety and allocate to Community Payback Supervisors to undertake with the people subject to community orders. Community Payback Supervisors work on a rota that you will also be responsible for creating. As this is job share post you will share these responsibilities with your colleague.
What are we looking for?
You will be someone who is:
Empathetic and non-judgmental
Who enjoys working outside
Is confident delivering instructions
Has a good level of DIY skills or a trade
Has a sound knowledge of health and safety
Who can manage your own time and work
Can adapt to changing situations
Has a sound geographical knowledge of our area
Is proficient in the use of IT
Has good record-keeping skills
Has a sense of community and social capital
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear more about you and see how you could fit into the West Dunbartonshire's Community Payback team to help us deliver our local key objectives from our community plan and the broader vision of Community Justice Scotland, of making Scotland the safest country in the world.
You will be required to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups [PVG] Scheme member before you can commence employment.
This is a part time post and the salary will be pro-rata to the number of hours worked.
Requirements
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.
