Full Job Description
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Arboricultural Project Manager (Highways) to join our dynamic Scottish Grounds Maintenance team in Scotland. This is a full-time role working 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
In this role, you will be responsible for the management of a range of Arboriculture Projects, including Ash Dieback, undertaken by Amey throughout Scotland, principally on the NMC North-East & South-West Contracts.
This role would suit a candidate with an arboriculture or forest management background. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team to set and manage project objectives and outcomes, including developing requisite processes and technical solutions.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and manage woodland and Ash Dieback projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.
- Oversee the collection of accurate data on tree and woodland assets, including condition and maintenance requirements.
- Work closely with data collection and GIS teams, identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative solutions to enhance data capture and analysis capabilities.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data analysis processes. Implement quality control and validation measures to maintain high standards of data reliability.
- Utilise analytical tools and techniques to extract meaningful insights and trends from large datasets and to enhance data management and analysis capabilities.
- Perform detailed analysis of data to inform management strategies.
- Create detailed reports and visualisations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders. Present data in a clear and concise manner, making it accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Prepare technical notes, woodland management plans and ash dieback action plans.
- Evaluate felling and thinning operational methodologies and access constraints. Collaborate with stakeholders and supply chain to develop solutions.
- Develop and implement operational delivery programmes. Monitor progress and performance of delivery to ensure safety, quality and productivity standards are met. Identify and mitigate programme risks and manage change.
- Diligently capture and manage delivery records.
- Measure works in accordance with approved methods.
- Provide day-to-day administrative support for operational activities.
- Undertake Professional Tree Inspections and woodland / vegetation surveys when required.

Candidate Requirements:
- Able to work across all of Amey’s Network Maintenance Contracts in Scotland.
- Proven experience in project management and data analysis in the field of arboriculture or forestry.
- Possess strong project management skills, with experience in planning, executing, and monitoring projects to ensure successful outcomes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to complex challenges.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Extensive experience of GIS / Asset Management software.
- An organised team player with the ability to communicate well with others.
- Strong operational knowledge of thinning and felling methodologies with particular focus on mechanised solutions.
- Ability to translate complex information, including contractual documents.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, build positive relationships with stakeholders and influence outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data and insights clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with Higher National Diploma in a relevant discipline may be considered.
- Current attainment in Lantra Professional Tree Inspection, or commitment to attain at a defined time in the future, is essential.
- Business, Project Management, Data Analytics or Process Improvement qualifications are desirable but not essential.
- Appropriate experience working on a trunk road maintenance contract or having successfully fulfilled a role of a similar nature is desirable but not essential.
- Strong entry level candidates with appropriate qualifications may be considered.
