Job Summary
Please note that this position is temporary. Salary will be pro-rated for less than 37 hours per week.
The Council’s Streetscene department in conjunction with Mugdock Country Park has an exciting opportunity for experienced garden operative to undertake project work within Mugdock Country Park.
The position is initially for 25 weeks but may be extended with funding (up to March 2026)
The role is to:
- develop the Victorian Walled Garden in collaboration with the Team Lead as a suitable wedding / event venue
- develop horticultural planting within the walled garden and in other areas of Mugdock Country Park including wildflower beds, planters, car park bed. You will also be required to carry out grass cutting around the estate along with Mugdock’s wardens
The role is 5 days over 7, predominantly Monday to Friday 0900 to 1700, occasional weekend volunteering opportunities may be arranged over the warmer months to suit; hence a degree of flexibility is required.
The Service is very diverse, undertaking open space maintenance, sports pitch marking and maintenance, shrub and arbor work as well as cemetery operations, care of gardens and street cleaning operations. Working mainly in Mugdock Country Park, you may also be required to work from any location within the district. You will be an ambassador for Streetscene / Mugdock Country Park delivering first class service to our customers providing well maintained open space for residents and visitors.

PVG / Disclosure Scotland

Where the post you are applying for is considered a Regulated Role under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.
Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment.
In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by the HR &OD Manager.
Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.
The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
