The High School of Dundee is seeking to appoint effective from August 2025, a qualified, enthusiastic and effective Teacher of Latin and Classics with the ability to also teach Religious, Moral & Philosophical Studies. This opportunity would suit an experienced teacher looking for a new challenge or the opportunity to take on a part-time role. The school is willing to consider the appointment of a 1.0FTE teacher to cover Latin, Classics and RMPS teaching, or separate part-time roles to cover Latin (0.6FTE) and Classics/RMPS (0.4FTE).

Latin has remained a popular subject within our school. Pupils who elect to study Latin in Forms 1 and 2 have three 40-minute periods each week. Latin is also offered at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels. The successful applicant will be expected to teach a range of classes from Form 1 to Form 6 including the preparation of pupils for SQA courses. Ongoing curriculum development is expected, alongside the planning and delivery of additional activities related to the subject.

RMPS is taught in Forms 3 and 4 only, with the focus being largely on the discussion and debate of contemporary moral, religious and philosophical issues. As such, the successful applicant is expected to routinely adapt lesson resources to reflect ongoing local, national and global issues. This area of our curriculum would suit any teacher who is interested in the holistic development of our young people’s knowledge and understanding, as well as their critical thinking and presentation skills. The planning and delivery of additional activities related to the subject are also expected, for example, resources for our Summer Term Activity Days.
