Full Job Description
5 hours per month, flexibility is required for the post as it will include some evening and school holiday work due to Young Carers activities,
- Support Ardersier Primary with raising awareness of Young Carers
- Host information and groups at Ardersier Primary and community spaces
- Support the Young Carer Community Worker with monthly and holiday clubs
- To work with the Young Carer Community Worker to engage with primary aged Young Carers, using a variety of methods including consultation activities
- To work alongside the Young Carer Community Worker to set up, participate, organise, and carry out relevant activities and respite breaks for Young Carers in your designated area
- Organise meaningful consultation with Young Carers about their needs and the development of Connecting Carers
- Provide one-to-one support for Young Carers, where appropriate, to support their mental health and wellbeing needs
- To measure improvement of mental health in Young Carers following one-to-one support Improved outcomes for Young Carers: As part of Connecting Carers this role will contribute to the following outcomes for Young Carers:
- To ensure Young Carers are seen, heard and supported
- Feel better informed and more confident in their ability to shape services and access support available to them via the duties of the Carer (Scotland) Act 2016
- Have increased self-esteem, confidence and resilience
- Report improved physical and mental well-being Key responsibilities - What you'll do in collaboration with the Young Carer Community Worker: Main tasks
- Grow support for Young Carers in the Ardersier area
- Identify barriers that prevent Young Carers and their families from engaging in events and activities and actively endeavour to remove them
- Consult with Young Carers individually or as part of a group and ensure there is an actioned focus outcome which is implemented
- Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Young Carers is paramount during events and activities
- Deal proactively with any behaviour issues that arise during events and activities
- Work to agreed work plans and take part in regular check ins with line manager
- Work with the Young Carer Community Worker to produce monthly monitoring reports
- Maintain confidentiality, and compliance within the boundaries of Child Protection and Getting it Right for Every Child
- Comply with the Carers Centre policies and procedures such as confidentiality policy, monitoring procedures, child protection procedures etc.
- Contribute to Connecting Carers work on continuous quality improvement PVG Scheme
- Requires PVG Scheme membership for regulated work with children Training requirements

Ability to engage with children and young people - Ability to support and delivering engaging and a variety of activities
- Ability/experience of organising and delivering appropriate and fun and safe events for Young Carers
- The ability to respond and work with Young Carers in an appropriate, friendly, fun, and sensitive manner
- Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
- Ability to work flexible hours when required
- A working knowledge of Child Protection and the Highland Practice Model Desirable:
- Evidence of working with Young Carers
- Ability to drive and access to a vehicle
- An awareness of the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016
- An awareness of the UNCRC Rights of the Child
