Full Job Description

Trainer/Assessor – First Aid

Salary: £28,858 per year

Working Hours: Full Time, 38.75 hours per week, working 5 days over 7.

Location: Primarily based at our Edinburgh Training Centre, with occasional travel across Scotland as required.

St Andrew’s First Aid is Scotland’s only dedicated first aid charity, saving lives since 1882. We are a trusted organisation, deeply embedded in Scottish communities, known for providing first aid education and first aid cover at major events across the country. As a social enterprise, we’ve trained over 75,000 people in workplace first aid and first aid for mental health in the past five years. All profits from our services directly support our charitable work across Scotland.

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Trainer/Assessor to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to help individuals develop essential life-saving skills across Scotland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver and assess a variety of First Aid, Mental Health, and related courses, including our renowned ‘First Aid at Work’ training.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Commercial Training to ensure the highest standards of training delivery and assessment.
  • Review and update training materials in collaboration with the team, ensuring relevance and up-to-date content.
  • Contribute to business development activities to grow and improve the training service.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Standard Grades in English and Arithmetic.
  • Nationally recognised training qualification.
  • Relevant course-specific qualification, e.g., First Aid at Work.
  • Recognised Assessor Award.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Verifier’s Award.
  • Mental Health First Aid Trainers Award.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and under the direction of the Line Manager.
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues, volunteers, and customers.
  • Proven experience delivering First Aid and/or Health and Safety courses.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in student-centred learning.
  • Understanding of training procedures and quality assurance protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) at an intermediate level.
  • Knowledge of St Andrew’s First Aid products and services.

Personal Qualities:

  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Car owner with insurance for business use (mileage paid) OR access to private transport for role mobility requirements.
  • Willingness to travel across Scotland and work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends on a rota basis.
  • Professional appearance and willingness to wear corporate dress.
  • Clear PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check.

About You:

  • Proven experience delivering and assessing ‘First Aid at Work’ courses.
  • A recognised training qualification (e.g., PTLLS, AET, or equivalent).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
  • A passion for teaching and supporting others in their learning journey.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to work
