Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to contribute to Thames Water's mitigation of enforcement risk as a result of water discharge non-compliance against an environmental permit and/or pollution incident. What you'll be doing as a Regulatory Information Advisor You will be part of a team responding to the Environment Agency (EA) across a variety of communication mediums. This high-profile role will involve working with our legal team at Eversheds Sutherland and the Environment Agency (EA). As a result, you will gain exposure across the business at all levels and have the opportunity to contribute towards the company's wider environmental function.

  • You will respond to the Environmental Agencies' informal requests for information within the agreed deadline via written correspondence.
  • You will need to work closely with multiple stakeholders across the business to gather the relevant information and act as a level of assurance by assessing whether the mitigation and actions to reduce the risk of recurrence are robust enough to satisfy the EA.
  • You will also need to interrogate the information request in the first instance in order to understand if the basis of the request is factually correct and if not, you will need to clarify the facts as part of your prepared written correspondence.
  • You will ensure any high-profile risks identified are tracked and escalated to senior management as appropriate.
  • Working with the business to promote, recognise and understand compliance and our regulatory obligations/commitments.
  • Routinely chair and facilitate meetings with information providers ensuring you are well prepared, organised and all attendees understand purpose of the meeting in advance.
  • Interpret scientific reports and/or data regarding environmental impact (links to assurance)
  • Contribute to monthly reporting of KPIs.

    Ability to project manage and manage your workload effectively.
  • Able to work within a team environment with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Confident in communicating with multiple internal and external stakeholders on a day-to-day basis by using a variety of communication mediums and experience in answering challenging questions.
  • Ability to produce reports, incident reviews, and interpret data, and communicate this verbally as well as in writing.
  • Ability to work with large data sets and different types of data (quantitative and qualitative.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint is essential.
  • Ability to understand the Environment Agency's Common Incident Classification Scheme (CICS), 16_02 and Compliance Classification Scheme (CCS).
  • Previous experience of working with Environmental and Water Industry Legislation and Regulation is desirable.
  • An Environmental Science, Legal, or Investigative degree or equivalent qualification would be advantageous.
