The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting pupils with their classwork;
  • Helping pupils who need extra support;
  • Assisting with classroom preparation;
  • Listening to children read or reading to them;
  • Supporting teachers in managing classroom behaviour;
  • Supervising group activities;
  • Looking after pupils who are upset, ill or have had accidents;
  • Clearing away materials and equipment after lessons;
  • Helping with outings and sports events;
  • Taking part in CPD;
  • Carrying out administrative tasks;
  • Preparing resources for the pupils;
  • Make contact with parents by letter or telephone at the request of and after discussion with the class teacher;
  • Maintaining an organised resource room and helping with the storage of incoming requisitions;
  • General supervision of children in the playground and back gate from 8:15am – 8:30am;
  • Organise the end of day buses alongside others;
  • Participate in the lunch duty rota; and
  • Assist the SLT with any other administration tasks

Qualifications and Experience

  • PDA Qualification is preferred but not essential;
  • Experience of working with children;
  • The ability to build good relationships with children, teachers and parents;
  • An understanding of how children develop and learn;
  • Good reading, writing and numeracy skills;
  • Flexibility and creativity;
  • The ability to respect confidentiality;
  • Good communication and organisational skills;
  • The ability to manage groups of children;
  • A patient and caring approach; and
  • The ability to work as part of a team.

Salary and Benefits

Robert Gordon’s College offers a broad range of benefits in addition to the salary you will receive. These benefits are non-contractual and may be changed by the College. Currently, the benefits provided to employees include:

  • Membership of the Aviva Pension Scheme;
  • Generous staff fee discount (after one year’s service);
  • Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Insurance;

  • Financial contribution toward the cost of buying prescription eyewear required for work;
  • A Bike to Work scheme;
  • A grant towards the cost of buying a computer;
  • Access to a free and confidential Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support.
