Location: Greenock Road, Bishopton PA7 5PW

Salary: £ 35,814.96

Contract Type: Permanent

Position Type: Full-time

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Pattern of work: Primarily Monday to Friday 8.30am-4.30pm but a degree of flexibility will be required with some weekend and evening work.

Closing Date: 5pm Monday 5th May

This is an exciting time to join the team at The Good Shepherd Centre (GSC) as we seek to build on its strong reputation for relational based practice and helping young people to build hope, skills and plans for their future. At GSC we have embarked on a journey with new strategic goals which are ambitious for our young people and the ways we want to change and develop our services.


GSC offers secure care, close support & semi-independent living services; education service and health and wellbeing support for vulnerable children, young people & young adults 12 to 17 years of age.


GSC offers children, young people, and young adults a safe, nurturing, and caring environment set in fabulous grounds with a garden wildlife trail and outdoor sports facility.


An opportunity has arisen to join our Education team as a Outdoor Education Instructor on a full-time, term-time, permanent basis. The role is based at our GSC secure campus outside of Bishopton.


The Outdoor Education Instructor will engage with vulnerable young people to provide exciting and enjoyable ways to learn; providing opportunities and support to achieve their highest potential in outdoor education and future success in training and work.


They will supervise and support young people in a nurturing, stimulating and outdoor environment, ensuring all activities are provided to a high standard primarily in a 1-1 or small group setting, whilst ensuring levels of safety and security are maintained at all times. The Outdoor Education Instructor will have Education timetable requirements and be required to plan ahead for lessons.


We are seeking to appoint a caring, child-centred, hard-working, and resilient individual with a motivation to be a positive role model and make a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people. Whether you have experience working in social care or education, or are looking for a change in career, we would love to hear from you.


Through ensuring that the work is in keeping with legislative, procedural, and good practice requirements and guidance, the overall focus of the role is to build trusting relationships with young people within a nurturing, stimulating and safe environment. You will work as part of a team to support young people to meet their needs, achieve their goals and build hope for their future.


There is also a requirement to apply for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a registered supervisor within the first three months of employment and to be registered as a registered supervisor with the SSSC within six months of employment.

The Good Shepherd Centre (GSC) supports vulnerable young people from the age of 12 up to 18. We offer a place of safety and nurture and a positive, holistic and strengths-based ethos. Young people are referred to us through the Children’s Hearing System and the Criminal Justice System. They have experienced difficulties in their lives, and many will have faced traumatic and harmful situations and may be experiencing psychological distress; mental health problems; and problems coping with managing feelings and day to day life.
