Role Purpose

To work within Children and Young Peoples Services to support class teachers and school managers in the provision of effective teaching and learning for all pupils in the primary sector, in particular those who experience barriers to learning.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Promote the principles of entitlement, inclusion and partnership inherent within local and national policy and practice.

• Assist Head Teachers and class teachers in the effective assessment, planning and monitoring of teaching and learning throughout the school.

• With managers, plan, monitor and evaluate the delivery of Pupil Support within the school, taking account of the 5 roles of Learning Support.

• As a result of consultation with class teachers, prepare, plan and provide support for class, group or individual within agreed priorities.

• Support the use of effective teaching approaches for children with additional needs which encourage participation and enhance self-esteem.

• Develop and sustain positive partnerships with parents in support of pupil’s learning

 • Assist in the co-ordination of support by additional needs assistants within school through the preparation and monitoring of Individualized Educational Plans and Coordinated Support Plans and Integrated Assessments.

• Promote effective pupil transfer, in particular at key stages of entry into pre-school setting, transfer into P1 and into Secondary School.

• Co-ordinate the range of interagency work provided within, and for, school by Support Services, Team Around the Cluster, Educational Psychologists and partner agencies such as NHS Borders.

• Maintain pupils’ profile and assessment records and complete Education Authority reports as required.

• Prepare reports and participate in review and planning meetings as appropriate.

• Undertake appropriate professional development on a regular basis.

• Undertake Cluster working through the Team Around the Cluster

This profile is indicative of the nature and level of responsibility associated with the post. It is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake such other duties as may be required by the Head of Service to meet the needs and responsibility of the Service and the Council. This may include Cluster Working through the Team around the Cluster model.

Essential

• A degree or diploma in primary education or PGCE/PGDE along with evidence of continued personal professional development

• General Teaching Council Scotland registration

 

A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post. * If you have a disability which precludes you from holding a drivers licence, Scottish Borders Council will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability. Should it be possible to make such an adjustment in order that you can undertake the travel responsibilities of the post, this will be taken into account in consideration for this role.
