Full Job Description

Robert Gordon’s College is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspiring full time PE Teacher to contribute to its sector leading and exciting 3-18 PE and Sports Curriculum and Co-curricular programme.  This post will be available from the new school year, in August 2025.

The PE Department has 14 members of Physical Education staff including the Head of Physical Education, an Assistant Head of Department and a Director of Sport. In addition there are 5 full-time Sport coaches, 4 swimming instructors and multiple ad-hoc coaches who all contribute to the delivery of the core curriculum for which the Head of PE is responsible, and the Co-Curriculum for which the Director of Sport is responsible.

PE and Sport is a major part of life at RGC. As well as our PE, Swimming, and Strength & Conditioning facilities at our Schoolhill campus in the city centre, we have a 39-acre PE and Sport ground at Countesswells to the west end of the city.  Full participation in Saturday sport leading a team is essential.  Experience of hockey coaching would be advantageous but not essential.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of PE at the College through an ability to undertake successfully the following tasks:

  • Teach Physical Education from Nursery to S6, including certificated PE courses;
  • To create an effective teaching and learning environment which offers support and encouragement to pupils;
  • Implement National Guidelines;
  • Be actively involved in co-curricular activities and full participation in Saturday sport;
  • To maintain appropriate records of pupil performance and assessment;
  • Parent Liaison;
  • Be expected to contribute to the wider school community.

Our Values and Approach

At Robert Gordon’s College we believe that diversity drives innovation and strengthens our community. We welcome applications from all candidates who meet the professional qualifications and experience. Our commitment to inclusion across race, gender, age, religion, identity, and experience drives us forward every day as we strive to ensure our staff and pupils all feel equally valued and important.

The Salary will be based on the national SNCT scale, together with the Robert Gordon’s Allowance above SNCT scale. Candidates will be expected to be willing to actively participate in the College’s vibrant co-curricular programme. The College provides excellent professional development opportunities and supports staff who want to pursue ongoing training or qualifications.

Robert Gordon’s College offers a broad range of benefits in addition to the salary you will receive. These benefits are non-contractual and may be changed by the College. Currently, the benefits provided to employees include:

  • Membership of the Scottish Teachers Pension Scheme, or access to an optional parallel pension scheme;
  • Generous staff fee discount (after one year’s service);
  • Life Insurance and Group Personal Accident Insurance;
  • Access to a third party cashback and discount site via RGC email addresses;
  • Preferential parking rates at the Bon Accord Centre car parks;
  • Family friendly leave above statutory requirements. This includes maternity, paternity & adoption leave, and time off for dependents;
  • Financial contribution toward the cost of buying prescription eyewear required for work;
  • A Bike to Work scheme;
  • A grant towards the cost of buying a computer;
  • Access to a free and confidential Employee Assistance Programme.

This post is subject to the safe recruitment process required by the regulatory bodies associated with the services operated at Robert Gordon’s College, including a PVG check. Candidates must be registered or eligible for registration with the GTCS.

The closing date for this post is Monday the 10th of March with the intention to interview candidates the following week.
