Job Advert

We are keen to employ a diverse workforce that reflects the people of Scotland. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and particularly from groups currently under-represented, including people with disabilities, those from minority ethnic communities or from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds

West Lothian Council are committed to far reaching changes to the way we deliver our Education Services. These changes include giving you the support and environment that you need to get on with your job and develop your abilities. Our dedication is demonstrated by the whole council achievement of the Investors in People Standard and always aiming a little higher in our service delivery and improvements.

Armadale Academy is a six-year comprehensive school that serves over 1150 students and is situated in Armadale, a former mining town in West Lothian.

Armadale Academy is a modern building with excellent facilities, and we offer a full range of SQA qualifications as well as an increasing number of and SCQF options. The school currently has approximately 80 teaching staff and departments are organised under the direction of a Principal Teacher Curriculum, who has responsibility for a curricular area alongside a whole school strategic leadership remit. In addition, our support structure currently includes three Heads of House and three Teachers of Wellbeing. In May 2023 our ELT remits were revised to align with school, local and national priorities.

The whole school community works in partnership to improve outcomes for students. We aim to provide the highest possible standard of education for all young people in a safe, caring and stimulating environment.

Our vision statement of ‘Learning Together, Achieving Together’ underpins our collaborative approach to improvement, where every voice is important and in which all members of the school community are valued and their achievements recognised. The school values – respect, equity, ambition, community and health - underpin all decision making in the daily life of the school.

The post of Principal Teacher of Curriculum – Creative, Aesthetic and Technology Faculty is to provide effective leadership and management within the curricular areas of Art and Design, Craft, Design and Technology and Home Economics.  This includes whole school responsibility for a range of SQA subjects including: Art and Design, Design and Manufacture, Fashion and Textile Technology, Graphic Communication, Photography, Practical Cookery, Practical Metalwork and Practical Woodwork, and a whole school remit which is currently Aesthetics of Environment and Social Enterprise.

A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland is essential.
