Full Job Description
Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the post holder will manage the Finance Office for the Academic and Student Support Services division in providing robust financial management of the division's accounts, particularly those of Lifelong Learning, contributing to financial planning and budgetary activities as required., Working to objectives and priorities agreed by the Finance Manager, to be responsible on a day-to-day basis for all financial accounting activities undertaken within Lifelong Learning (LEARN), Continuing and Professional Development (CPD) and other parts of Academic and Student Support Services (AcSSS) as required.,
- Collaborating with colleagues in departments within AcSSS and Central Finance to ensure that the office is fulfilling finance administration responsibilities in the most effective way possible.
- Ensuring that LEARN's financial practices and processes are fully compliant with the University's financial regulations and procedures, supporting staff across the department in their implementation.
- Maintaining and reviewing operational procedures, and relevant documentation, to ensure that standards of service continuously meet the needs of stakeholders.
- Providing appropriate advice and guidance to students and colleagues on policies, processes and procedures related to finance.
- Ensuring that objectives and deadlines are met throughout the academic year.
- Developing a thorough understanding of the University's financial management system.
- Developing a thorough understanding and knowledge of the financial records on the University's Student Information Management System (SIMS).
- Contributing to the assessment and implementation of relevant projects, policies and service developments generated by the central University.
- Monitoring and approving orders (as an authorised signatory) and monitoring ledger records generated by the division finance staff.
- Preparing periodic financial statements for the Director of Lifelong Learning and the Finance Manager including income and expenditure accounts, variance analyses and commentaries.
- Ensuring that the team responds to requests for financial information from the central University services and senior officers and from relevant external regulatory and funding bodies in a timely manner.
- Completing the annual fixed asset reconciliation for LEARN, CPD, Learning and Teaching Academy (LTA) and Director's Office divisions.
- Working closely with the Finance Manager, to manage the AcSSS finance team staff, supporting them in the effective execution of their roles.
- To participate in such division, University and external networks and forums as may be relevant to the role, under the guidance of the Finance Manager. General Duties

Lifelong Learning and Continuing and Professional Development develop, promote, and deliver part-time academic and professional development courses for adults. The programmes are diverse and courses are designed to meet the needs and interests of individuals whether in their personal or professional lives.,

The Academic and Student Support Services division is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and initiative-taking individual to join the Finance Office., 1. Proven relevant experience of undertaking financial accounting activities, including the production of highly accurate reports and documents. 2. Experience working with, and devising, appropriate monitoring and control procedures. 3. Proven experience in management accounts reporting. 4. Experience in effectively communicating financial information to non-financial staff. 5. Excellent organisational skills and ability to effectively manage and prioritise own workload and that of a team to specified deadlines. 6. Proven ability to use initiative and creativity to make judgements, resolve problems and identify and assess practical options. 7. Ability to use IT applications fluently, with high user level skills in Microsoft Excel. 8. A recognised finance related qualification such as AAT or part-qualified ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent experience. 9. Experience in personnel management. Desirable Criteria 1. Experience of using financial bespoke computer systems, e.g. Oracle, SIMS. 2. Experience of implementing systems and business process change. 3. Experience of working in the Higher Education sector.

The post is part time (21 hours per week) and fixed term to 31 May 2026 to cover a secondment. The post is available from 1 April 2025. Salary: £33,482 - £36,130 per annum, pro rata for hours worked (Grade 5).
