Job ref: 11bd61107d0648b38807e348d789b2ef

Full Job Description

There is a rare opportunity for a Lead Engineering Manager role within the Onshore Project Engineering team. This leadership role will inspire and guide regional multidisciplinary project engineering teams, working collaboratively to support the development and delivery of a wide array of electricity transmission projects. These initiatives will contribute to the expansive growth within our network and play a crucial role in driving our transition towards Net Zero, fostering a sustainable and inclusive future for all.

You will

- Manage and develop a team of Engineering Managers and Senior Engineers, as well as support the broader regional project engineering team, to deliver innovative and value adding engineering solutions across a portfolio of development and delivery projects over £1bn in value.

- Foster a culture of personal development and high performance to empower Managers and multidisciplinary Engineers to reach their potential and drive strategic improvements, accelerating network growth for new renewable generation in the North of Scotland.

- Guide a team to diligently manage engineering risks and maximise opportunities to deliver value for money to the consumer and ensure that suitably skilled resources, both internal and external, are available to maintain or accelerate programme dates.

- Promote and manage safety in design with particular focus on continual improvement in parallel with ensuring compliance to relevant legislation and effective delivery of CDM Principal Designer and Designer roles.

Proven experience in leading, nurturing, and empowering high-performing engineering teams, with a strong focus on innovation and continuous improvement.

- A qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, ideally as a Fellow or Chartered Engineer, with extensive experience in a similar environment. Most importantly, a strong ability to foster collaborative and thoughtful problem-solving in addressing engineering challenges.

- Proven experience in managing all stages of engineering design, from feasibility studies and detailed design to implementation and final delivery.

- Relevant technical and commercial knowledge of the Electrical Transmission sector.

- Strong communication skills. As you'll be working with a diverse group of people, it's important to communicate expectations clearly to your team, simplify complex and technical information for other stakeholders, and build strong relationships by negotiating and influencing with empathy and confidence at all levels.

SSE has a bold ambition - to be a leading energy company in a net zero world. We're transforming the grid to provide greener electricity for millions of people and investing over £20 billion in homegrown energy, with £20 billion more in the pipeline.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport energy from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all - we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown energy for the future and building a network for net zero to create secure power for generations to come.

Salary: £74,600 - £112,000 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available, Enjoy discounts on private healthcare and gym memberships. Wellbeing benefits like a free online GP and 24/7 counselling service. Interest-free loans on tech and transport season tickets, or a new bike with our Cycle to Work scheme. As well as generous family entitlements such as maternity and adoption pay, and paternity leave.
