Full Job Description
Libraries are warm spaces within local communities and offer opportunities to reduce social isolation by providing a welcoming atmosphere as well as group activities for adults.
Libraries are very popular with children and young people and the successful candidate will have experience of and enjoy working with them. Regular tasks include leading Bookbug song and rhyme sessions, sensory story times, code clubs and other groups for children and families.
Our teams work flexibly across our offices and whilst the successful candidate will mainly work between 2 locations they will be required to cover other locations across East Lothian potentially at short notice when required.
To support and assist in the day to day delivery of front line customer and library services.
The successful candidate will work mainly between Tranent and Ormiston Libraries. Children and young people aged over 8 also attend the library after school and during holidays without parents and carers and the successful candidate will have experience in engaging young people in appropriate activities mindful of the sometimes competing needs of different library users.
The successful candidate will have experience of responding quickly to changing customer and service needs and will be required to help support customers access services online and as such they must have strong digital and communication skills., Educated to Higher level, NC or SVQ Level 2 in English and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.
Driving Licence
A full current driving licence is desirable for this post.
