Full Job Description
The selected candidate will join the Markets Division within Technology in Belfast as a Senior Software Engineer, initially supporting the Order Entry API to develop features and fixes using Java, cloud and automation technologies.
You will be a part of the EBS Workstation Team, which is a high performing group of individuals that deliver on a broad range of functions including systems/business analysis, software development and quality assurance services. The team is responsible from initial request review, impact assessment, and prioritization through to solution implementation.
EBS Workstation is a next generation trading platform that enables professional traders to deal in foreign exchange markets in one of the largest and most liquid FX OTC markets in the world, so this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the technical direction of a benchmark trading platform.
CME Group has recently agreed a long-term partnership with Google to migrate our technology infrastructure to Google Cloud in a visionary partnership to transform the global derivatives markets through technology with Google themselves investing $1bn of equity in CME.
With the Google Cloud migration along with DevOps and automation as driving forces to maximize customer value, we are looking for an engineer who is excited by the opportunity to hone these kinds of skills to complement their core Java skills. In this role you can expect to work with technologies such Google Cloud Platform, Argo workflows, Kubernetes, Docker and Jenkins to name but a few.
Although initially working on the Order Entry API product, the Technology division also develops a variety of trading and post-trade solutions, supporting our exchange and clearing business. Internal mobility and flexibility are a key part to our agile approach to technology delivery. The successful candidate, throughout their career, will play a key role in driving our success across technology, and will find opportunities to work in a variety of projects and technologies beyond their initial areas of subject matter expertise.

Principal Accountabilities
+ Plays a supporting role in preliminary story review, providing constructive feedback and input on work effort estimation
+ Plays a supporting role in working with Product Owner, Solutions Architect and Analysts to interpret high level requirements for complex, large scale initiatives and decomposing them into independent stories and sub-tasks for the team
+ Contributes to system design collaborating with various teams to build fit for purpose platforms
+ Designs robust and maintainable solutions to meet complex requirements
+ Designs, develops, tests, deploys, maintains and improves software
+ Implements application modules, working with test specialists to provide high levels of testability
+ Optimizes applications for high performance
+ Participates in code reviews, whilst reviewing code to proactively identify and mitigate potential issues and defects
+ Helps to identify sources of defects as well as troubleshoots various forms of code
+ Mentors and supports the growth of engineering talent to drive business value
+ Supports business delivery through encouraging the growth and maturity of talent
+ Supports continuous improvement, contributing to adoption of best practice and process improvements
+ Completes research and conducts POCs on new technologies
+ Participates in CI/CD development pipelines, contributing to modern test and delivery techniques
+ Takes initiative when working on technical solutions to application and cloud challenges

+ Strong knowledge of core Java skills, with demonstrable experience
+ Demonstrable experience in developing applications with Spring Boot
+ Experience in working with RDBMS
+ Ability to write clean, bug-free code that is easy to understand, and easily maintainable., + Experience of coding in a story-driven Agile environment
+ Prior experience working in financial services/exchange space
+ Prior experience working with BDD methodologies and automated acceptance criteria
+ Prior experience using Confluence, JIRA, or other Atlassian tools
+ Experience with CI/CD pipelines, for example Jenkins, XL Release
+ Experience with static analysis and security scanning tools such as Checkmarx
