Full Job Description
The vision is clear, but there's ambiguity too - and that's where you thrive.
We're looking for a Backend Engineer who builds the backbone of the AI platform and architects systems, thinks in patterns, and obsesses over performance, reliability, and scale. You'll work closely with the Tech Lead and a tight-knit team of Back End and Front End engineers to shape how the platform actually works and performs.
This role is about designing resilient APIs, engineering for evolution, enabling intelligence at scale, and making sure that what we build can grow fast without breaking. You'll help us turn bold product ideas into dependable, well-architected systems that power real impact.
What you'll do
Join the core team to build an AI -native enterprise platform where we connect users with L.L.Ms, R.A.Gs, agents, data, and generative intelligence.
Architect and develop robust Back End systems that serve as the connective tissue between data sources, AI models, frontends, and external services.
Design and scale APIs that power real -time interactions, intelligent automations, and complex AI-driven workflows.
Work closely with the Tech Lead and a lean, high-impact team of Back End and Front End engineers to evolve a modular, scalable Back End that can adapt as our platform grows.
Bring deep Back End experience, especially in Node/Nest, but with transferable knowledge from languages like .NET or Java.
Build Back End with G.C.P services like Cloud.Run, Big.Query, and G.C.S.
Collaborate on infrastructure design, deployment, and scaling strategies. Make tradeoffs that balance speed, stability, and intelligence.
Bring curiosity, hunger, and creativity to everything you do. Explore, prototype, and keep us on the frontier of AI tooling.
Build integrations with third-party SaaS platforms, data APIs, agents, connectors, and smart automations that work seamlessly and reliably.
Be a core contributor to engineering culture. Bring clarity, curiosity, and high standards to everything you build. Contribute to decisions on infrastructure, DevOps, and scaling strategy.
You're comfortable in Node and Nest, with a strong foundation in .NET or Java. You understand concurrency, the event loop, and how to make Back End systems fast and resilient.
You're confident working across cloud platforms like G.C.P, AWS, or Azure. You're comfortable navigating infrastructure, data storage, and deployment workflows.
Above all, you're collaborative, curious, pragmatic, and driven to build something meaningful with a team that cares about craft and impact.
Nice-to-haves
We're after a Back End wizard. Extra kudos if you've worked with Go or Rus t.
Experience working with L.L.Ms, R.A.Gs, M.C.P, AI agents, Agent.2.Agent, and conversational interfaces
Knowledge of authentication protocols like O.Auth2, S.A.M.L, or Open.ID, particularly Microsoft Entra.ID (Azure AD) or enterprise SSO flows.
Bonus points if you've got skills in Solutions Architecture, Sys.Ops, or Networking, with certifications from AWS, Azure, or CompTIA.
Experience working in early-stage or startup environments where speed, ambiguity, and autonomy are part of the job.
We are shaping a new class of AI-first enterprise platforms. We believe in clear purpose, radical collaboration, and building with care. This role sits at the core of that effort, helping shape systems that power intelligent, connected products., The Octopus Group - consisting of Octopus Computer Associates (London) & Octopus International SA (Brussels) established in 1976 are one of the oldest and most established IT and Business staffing specialists in Europe.
