Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) is the lead body for Commonwealth sport in Scotland. We select, prepare and lead Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games. ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Head of Marketing, Communications and Business Operations we are seeking to recruit an experienced Events Manager to lead the planning and execution of key events in the build-up to, during, and following the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
This role is pivotal in delivering high-profile engagement activities that excite, inspire, and bring Scotland together in celebration of Team Scotland’s journey. Working with a range of stakeholders, you will design and manage events that showcase Scottish sport, enhance our partnerships, and create unforgettable moments for athletes and fans alike.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Pre-Games
- Develop and deliver ‘Team Scotland House’ for Glasgow 2026, securing a venue and overseeing operational planning.
- Support the King’s Baton Relay in Scotland, collaborating with Glasgow 2026 organisers and Commonwealth Sport.
- Lead the planning and execution of The Scottish Sports Awards 2025, ensuring a high-impact and well-managed event.
- Support additional key events such as team announcement media activity, partnership activations, and Team Camps.
Games
- Your Games-time role will manage responsibilities as part of the event operations team, supporting the delivery of events and engagement activities during Glasgow 2026 (23rd July – 2nd August 2026).
- It is anticipated that you will be available to work across the full duration of the Games (23rd July – 2nd August 2026) as well as time immediately pre- and post-Games.
Post-Games
- Oversee post-Games celebrations and partnership engagement events.
- Lead planning for The Scottish Sports Awards 2026, ensuring a memorable event that recognises sporting achievements.
- Conduct a post-Games review, reporting on event outcomes and recommendations for future planning.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Knowledgeable in communications, editorial and storytelling in a range of multi-media formats.
- Technically proficient in video capture and editing.
- Experienced in using social media channels and their functionality.
- Comfortable in operating successfully under time and resource pressure.
- You will have a strong portfolio of work to demonstrate your skills, with experience of major sporting events an added bonus.
- A knowledge of the Scottish sport, media and political landscapes would be beneficial, as would an understanding of the Commonwealth Games.

We are looking for a dynamic, organised, and experienced events professional who:
- Has a strong background in event design and delivery, particularly in high-profile or sporting events.
- Thrives under pressure and is comfortable managing multiple deadlines.
- Excels at stakeholder engagement, working with partners, sponsors, and suppliers to create impactful experiences.
- Is financially astute, with experience in budget management and reporting across all aspects of event management.
- Brings knowledge of the Scottish sport, commercial, and political landscape (desirable).
- Has a passion for major sporting events and understands the significance of the Commonwealth Games.
