Full Job Description
Location: Scotland (with travel to agricultural events across the country)
Reporting to: Editor / Digital Content Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
About The Scottish Farmer
The Scottish Farmer is Scotland’s leading agricultural publication, proudly serving rural communities with trusted news, livestock coverage, expert opinion, and stories from the heart of the countryside. With a strong presence in print, online, and on social media, we deliver high-quality journalism and compelling visual content that champions the rural sector.
Job Overview
We are looking for a dynamic and creative Multi-Media Photographer to join our editorial team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about visual storytelling and agriculture, capable of producing engaging photographic and video content for print, digital platforms, and social media channels. A passion for the Scottish livestock sector and interest in animal photography is a must in the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Photography: Capture high-quality images of livestock, people, agricultural machinery, events, landscapes, and rural life.
- Video Production: Film and edit short videos for web and social media, including event highlights, interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage.
- Live Event Coverage: Attend agricultural shows and events to provide real-time content for social media and follow-up features.
- Content Management: Organise, edit, and deliver media content in line with deadlines and editorial briefs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with journalists, editors, and social media managers to shape visual storytelling across platforms.
- Brand Representation: Represent The Scottish Farmer in public and professional settings, maintaining excellent relationships with show organisers, farmers, and industry stakeholders.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in photography and videography (a portfolio of work would be desired).
- Proficiency with DSLR cameras, audio equipment, and editing software.
- Strong visual storytelling skills and a good eye for composition, detail, and moment.
- Comfortable shooting in a variety of conditions (outdoor, low light, livestock rings).
- Ability to work quickly and independently under pressure, especially at live events.
- Familiarity with rural Scotland, agricultural events, and/or farming communities is a strong advantage.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with people from all walks of rural life.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Scotland.
Desirable
- Drone photography/videography experience.
- Experience posting content directly to social platforms (e.g., Instagram Stories, Facebook Live).
- Background in journalism or media.
What We Offer
- The chance to contribute to a respected and historic brand at the heart of rural Scotland.
- Opportunities to travel to major agricultural events and meet inspiring people.
- Creative freedom and support to shape visual content across multiple channels.
- Flexible working and a collaborative team environment.
