The Post
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Directorate of Communications, Marketing and Public Engagement for a Social and Digital Media Strategist. The Social and Digital Media Strategist will play a key role in our Digital team which, together with the Marketing and Communications teams, form the University’s Communications, Marketing and Public Engagement (CMPE) Directorate.
The Directorate leads the University’s communications with a wide range of audiences across multiple platforms including print and digital. We are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable, highly motivated and creative social media professional to join our team to lead on our strategic social media efforts.
The post-holder will be responsible for developing and implementing, in conjunction with the Digital Marketing Manager, the Social Media Strategy for the University. This will include taking a strategic lead in the planning and delivery of compelling creative content for organic and paid social media activity across domestic and international markets. The successful candidate will be an expert in, and have demonstrable experience of, online brand reputation, brand positioning, content marketing, pro-active and reactive social engagement, and social listening.

Description of Duties
- Lead on the development and implementation of the University’s Social Media Strategy with a focus on engagement and ROI to achieve marketing targets
- Coordinate and support the execution of social media activity across the University to ensure all University social voices support the brand, enhance institutional reputation and apply our tone of voice
- Liaising with and writing content briefs for the University of Stirling’s Social Media Ambassadors
- Oversee social media engagement for all existing brand social media channels and any other emerging social media platforms
- Lead the development of digital and social content for strategically important target audiences
- Devise and deliver compelling content and creative campaigns to support paid and organic social media activity
- Manage the execution, including coordinating budget, of social media advertising campaigns that are fully integrated with CMPE objectives
- Liaise with agencies and third parties in the execution of a programme of market-specific content
- Providing social media coverage of a range of university related events both on and off campus
- Deliver regular reporting of insights and analysis on current engagement and learnings
- Lead the development and distribution of social insights through analysis of trends, techniques and advertising data (working closely Digital and Marketing teams)
- Monitor and present social media trends, techniques and insights to CMPE colleagues
- Line manages the Social Media & Digital Officer
- Be the organisational lead for social media best practice
- Play a lead role in university social media governance, policy and training documentation
- Ensure a high standard of customer service for both internal and external stakeholders
Essential Criteria
- Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate relevant experience
- Significant and relevant digital experience in a commercial or public sector environment
- Extensive experience in developing and managing social media strategies, including planning and goal setting, with demonstrable positive outcomes
- Strong experience in the delivery of paid social media advertising campaigns in the context of the broader digital marketing mix
- Experience of analysing digital campaign performance using tracking tools such as Google Analytics, Facebook Ads Manager, Google AdWords, LinkedIn Advertising
- Experience using social media management software such as Hootsuite, Sprout social or Brandwatch
- Experience in online brand reputation, brand positioning, content marketing, pro-active and reactive social engagement, and social listening
- Creative flair with proven ability to write attractive, concise copy and oversee production of visual assets which create a social buzz and drive audience engagement
- Demonstrable experience of working with digital media including Adobe Creative Cloud packages
- High level of ICT literacy with excellent MS Office skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills, highly self-motivated with ability to persuade, organise and motivate others
- Excellent time management, organisational and planning skills with ability to prioritise workload, multi-task and meet deadlines
- A passion for social media and prepared to participate in an on-call rota to meet the needs of managing the nature of social media channels
- Line management experience
