Full Job Description
- Originating and producing stories for BBC Radio Scotland local Selkirk bulletins. You will also be responsible for compiling and broadcasting these bulletins for both radio and smart speaker.
- Originating, researching and producing stories that may travel to a wider BBC Scotland audience on radio / online / digital or TV.
- Using a range of audiovisual equipment to go and gather material including interviews on stories for radio, online and TV bulletins where necessary. You may be working in the office or in the field to gather stories.
- Exercising editorial judgement in developing story ideas and producing fair, accurate, balanced and impartial journalism.
- Excellent communication skills to work within the BBC Selkirk team, but also with colleagues throughout BBC Scotland including online journalists, newsroom reporters, correspondents and editors.
- Delivering work to tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards.
- Carry out duties at all time in accordance with the BBC's Health and Safety Policy and Editorial Guidelines.
BBC Selkirk is the base for BBC Scotland within the borders and we are looking for a motivated and multi-skilled journalist to join our team to help tell the stories of this region. You'll need to be a self-starter with an eye for a good story and lots of original ideas for news stories and how we tell them. Strong writing skills and an understanding of the needs of different audiences are essential for this role., - Have significant experience as a journalist, ideally with a good knowledge of the local area
- Be a self-starter who knows a good story and how to tell it
- Have effective planning and organisational skills, including the ability to work to deadlines and react positively to changes and conflicting priorities. You could be dispatched into the field with little notice to breaking news stories and be expected to adjust to whatever circumstances you find yourself in.
- Demonstrate sound editorial decisions based on a clear understanding of the BBC's distinctive news agenda, and the requirements of news and current affairs.
- You will have demonstrable experience of embracing technology, adopting new skills and adapting to the changing demands of a digital working environment.
- News reading experience is encouraged.
- The successful candidate must be able to drive.
