Full Job Description

Who are we?

St Andrew’s Hospice is a registered charity providing specialist palliative care for patients with life-limiting conditions which require complex symptom management, and/or end-of-life care. It is Lanarkshire's specialist hospice and provides multidisciplinary support for patients, their families and carers. The service is provided completely free of charge for the adult population of North and South Lanarkshire and is open to all without distinction of race, gender or creed.

 What is the role?

The Specialist Palliative Care Chaplain is part of the Patient & family support team. The core duties include:

 

·        Contribute to the delivery of Chaplaincy, Spiritual Care, Patient & Family Support to service users and their families.

·        To ensure St Andrew’s Hospice Pastoral Spiritual and non-clinical care services provision meet national quality standards and standards of inspection bodies, HSCP contractors and the UKBHC.

·        Plan, devise, and preside over Funeral Services for people of all faiths and none.

·        To provide professional advice as necessary to staff, patients, carers and volunteers by having a visible support presence within the organisation.

·        To participate and contribute to education and training in the areas of communication, bereavement support, spirituality and human development.

·        To participate in service reviews and participate in the development of clinical support services to meet the commissioning needs for Specialist Palliative Care in the future.

·        To be an active member of the AHPCC.

 What we expect of you?

As a member of the Hospice team the post holder will be pro-active in attending to the complex pastoral, spiritual and religious needs of all patients, families and carers, ensuring that all care is patient led and focused on the needs of the individual. Applicants will hold a degree in theology or the equivalent and have undertaken training in advanced communication skills. A minimum of 3 years proven pastoral/spiritual experience in a healthcare setting and a flexible approach to working hours are essential, as a keen interest in Palliative and End of Life Care.
