Apprentice Industrial Coatings Operative
Location: Grangemouth

Bilfinger UK are looking for candidates to join the business as an apprentice in Coatings for our 2025 Apprenticeship intake. The successful candidate will learn and assist in the application, maintaining and repairing various coating systems across different industrial environments. They will participate in formal and on-the-job training to gain an understanding of coating systems, materials, and application techniques. They will also attend college 1 day a week working towards a SVQ in Painting & Decorating to learn and develop the skills necessary in both practical and theoretical aspects to apply and maintain a full range of coating systems. Other aspects of your training will include a variety of different spraying methods, hand preparation, mechanical surface preparation and dry abrasive grit blasting.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: GCSEs (or equivalent) in Mathematics, English, and Science, or relevant trade-related qualifications.
- Skills:
- Basic understanding of construction and engineering principles.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces.
- Good communication skills and willingness to learn.
- Desirable: Some prior experience in a practical or hands-on role is beneficial but not required.
Personal Qualities:
- Enthusiasm for Learning: Willing to learn and develop skills in thermal insulation and engineering.
- Team Player: Ability to work as part of a team and support other engineers on-site.
- Reliability: Dependable with a strong work ethic.
- Problem Solving: Ability to identify and solve minor issues as they arise.
Working Conditions:
- The role may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions and may require lifting and handling materials.
- The apprentice will often work at industrial plants.
- The job may require working at heights or in confined spaces.
Progression & Development:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there are opportunities to move into a permanent position as a fully qualified Coatings operative with potential for career advancement in specialized areas such as PFP Applicator, Rope Access Painter or Coatings Inspection.
