Job ref: 3f75e1628ff24758abe202513a87308f

Full Job Description

The Scotland England Green Link project portfolio will play a critical role in the achievement of the UK's net zero targets, connecting the low carbon electricity resources in the north of Scotland to demand centres in the south.

The project is implementing a holistic approach to sustainability that encompasses people, communities, the environment and a fair contribution to society.

We currently have an opportunity for a Project focused Sustainability Advisor to join the team and play a key role in the development and delivery of our sustainability ambitions.

These mega projects are fast paced and dynamic. As such you need to be a resourceful self-starter and solution focused whilst being given overall direction and space to deliver with periodic check ins.

You will

- Build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve our sustainability goals, supporting the Sustainability Manager in communicating our sustainability ambition in a way that is meaningful.

- Provide support in the development of employer's standards for procurement, pre-qualification, invitation to tender and associated assessments. This includes deliverables, project risk registers and KPI development.

- Provide technical reviews of EGL Contracting Partners sustainability and related documentation and act a s a key reviewer for sustainability innovation fund submissions.

- Develop approaches, tools and systems to enable measurement of our sustainability performance and ensure sustainability reporting requirements are met in an efficient manner, advising project leadership on sustainability goals, opportunities and performance.

- Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders, particularly EGL Contracting Partners, organising and facilitating workshops to ensure they deliver against their sustainability requirements. This includes the BREEAM infrastructure rating for the project.

An in-depth understanding of a variety of sustainability topics including carbon, circular economy, biodiversity net gain, natural capital and social value, particularly in relation to infrastructure.

- A relevant degree qualification (BSc) in an environmental or sustainability-related subject or have relevant business experience and knowledge in the analytical and organisational techniques for sustainability performance management, including data gathering and reporting.

- Experience of implementing sustainability practices in the energy, utility or construction sector and a working knowledge of relevant regulatory and best practice frameworks. This would include experience of going "beyond compliance" to deliver sustainable benefits.

- Demonstrable knowledge and implementation of sustainability frameworks and practices across projects including BREEAM framework and PAS 2080.

- Strong networking and engagement capabilities across a diversity of internal and external stakeholders in many fields.

SSE has a bold ambition - to be a leading energy company in a net zero world. We're transforming the grid to provide greener electricity for millions of people and investing over £20 billion in homegrown energy, with £20 billion more in the pipeline.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport energy from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all - we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown energy for the future and building a network for net zero to create secure power for generations to come.

Salary: £40,600 - £61,000 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available, Enjoy discounts on private healthcare and gym memberships. Wellbeing benefits like a free online GP and 24/7 counselling service. Interest-free loans on tech and transport season tickets, or a new bike with our Cycle to Work scheme. As well as generous family entitlements such as maternity and adoption pay, and paternity leave.
