Full Job Description

The Project Engineering Manager (North) will lead a multidisciplinary, cross-functional engineering team to successfully deliver complex projects spanning civil, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines. Annual Capital Project budgets vary in scope and scale, ranging from £50,000 individual equipment purchases to multimillion-pound investments involving complex infrastructure developments. This position requires overseeing multiple engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with statutory regulations. The Project Engineering Manager is responsible for leading 3x Project Engineers of various engineering disciplines. The Project Engineers manage projects from initial conception through design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and final handover across Edrington's diverse operations. Additionally, the position will personally manage strategic projects of significant importance. Projects include infrastructure, distillation processes, new make spirit fillings, maturation operations, warehousing facilities, and associated operational equipment and systems. Although primarily based at The Macallan Estate, the Project Engineering Manager will be expected to provide oversight and support for engineering project activities across all Edrington's distillation and warehousing sitesMake an Impact

  • Provide expert engineering oversight, specialist input, and technical advice for capital investments and operational enhancements
  • Manage complex multidisciplinary projects, using project management standard methodologies to deliver projects from inception through to successful completion, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement, feasibility analysis, budget management, project planning, and timely reporting
  • Oversee design, construction, install and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, quality requirements, and operational readiness
  • Foster strong collaboration with internal teams such as Operations, Compliance, Brands, Whisky Makers and Guest Experience teams
  • Work with multiple external stakeholders including consultants, architects and engineering subject matter experts, governing bodies and local authorities
  • Maintain rigorous adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, fostering a culture of safety and compliance across projects and teams
  • Ensure all equipment and plant installations comply with statutory legislation and industry best practices, including robust change management processes and HAZOP analysis
  • Proactively manage equipment obsolescence to ensure operational continuity and reduce risk
  • Ensure project documentation, technical drawings (layouts, P&IDs), and technical specifications are accurate, current, and fully aligned with modifications to plant infrastructure
  • Drive innovation and support the adoption of advanced process control technologies, energy-efficient solutions, and sustainable engineering practices
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements and regulatory changes, ensuring proactive compliance and continual improvement

    BEng Hons Degree qualification and/or Masters Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering
  • Extensive experience managing engineering projects from design through to delivery within production or process environments
  • Experience in manufacturing, chemical, food processing, distillation, oil and gas or energy industries is desirable
  • Experience in process industries with practical knowledge of DSEAR regulations, ATEX equipment, hazardous areas, steam systems, water treatment, compressed air systems, pumps, rotating equipment, and process pipework
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety legislation, such as IOSH Managing Safely, Process Safety or NEBOSH certification
  • In-depth knowledge of statutory H&S requirements (COMAH, DSEAR) and environmental regulations
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing abilities
  • Proficiency in technical software including MS Project, SmartSheet and AutoCAD
  • IT literacy (Office 365, SAP)
