Full Job Description

INTERNAL APPLICANTS MUST APPLY VIA OPPORTUNITY MARKETPLACE

An exciting opportunity has arisen in South Lanarkshire Justice Social Work Services for a Team Leader in the new Public Health Court and Recovery Service. Justice Services in South Lanarkshire are committed to a public health approach to supporting people in conflict with the law and people experiencing issues with substance use, as such our Court Services have been reviewed and will now be delivered differently.

South Lanarkshire Justice Service is responsible for Pan Lanarkshire Court Social Work Services in Lanarkshire meaning we provide Social Work services on behalf of North and South Lanarkshire Councils to Hamilton, Lanark and Airdrie Sheriff Courts. As part of the service review, we will be co located with our Recovery Orientated Justice Service (ROJS) and there will be crossover between the two services.

ROJS, in partnership with Hamilton Sheriff Court’s Pan Lanarkshire Alcohol and Drug Problem Solving Court, has launched Scotland’s first dual alcohol and drug problem solving court to address substance use related offending. This initiative shifts from punitive measures to a supportive system, offering structured deferred sentences with 6-9 months of intensive intervention.

A multi-disciplinary team, including social workers, health care professionals and support workers with lived experience, provide immediate support, addressing substance use alongside broader social and personal needs. The successful candidate would work along side the ROJS Team Leader and provide cover and assistance where necessary.

The team will be based within Regent House in High Patrick Street, where a new shared Justice hub has been created alongside Prison Throughcare, Specialist Assessment and Intervention Team and Caledonian Systems teams.

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Team Leader with recent experience of Justice Social Work, wider knowledge of issues around the strategic Justice Social Work environment and also knowledge of the challenges associated with substance use.

The post holder will be expected to maintain the high standard of service already established; to further develop the potential of the teams; take a lead role in the development of Justice Services and be accountable for team performance.

This is a varied, challenging and rewarding post involving managing qualified and para-professional social work staff; allocation and monitoring of work within teams; chairing reviews and planning meetings; maintaining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); liaising with the wider service and partner agencies, particularly Scottish Courts and Tribunal Staff, defence agents and Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service;  and promoting good practice within the team and wider service.

The successful candidate must hold a degree level qualification in Social Work or equivalent. The post requires the successful candidate to be SSSC registered. The successful applicant would be required to undertake Non Personal Police Vetting level 2 as part of a requirement to use ViSOR.

As part of you application, please answer the following questions directly:

  1. With the introduction of the Bail and Release from Custody (Scotland) Act (2023) what will the implementation of Part 1 and 2 mean for Justice Services and how, as a Team Leader, you can promote and manage these changes.

  2. Please give an example of clear partnership working with other agencies and/or resources where there was conflict in terms of the plan for a service user. Provide an outline of the steps you took to resolve the situation. What factors did you consider in reaching your decision?

  3. The Team Leader role involves supporting the professional development of staff.  Can you explain how you would approach supporting and developing staff in your team and any examples of doing so in current or previous roles?

  4. Can you describe a time where you have had to manage a challenging member of staff, what strategies you employed and what outcomes you achieved?

Hours: 35 per week

Vacancy: Permanent

Salary: £48,670 - £49,400
