Kibble is a specialist provider of services for at risk children and young people across the UK. Many of the young people the charity cares for have experienced significant trauma in their lives and we provide a safe, stable environment that is both nurturing and therapeutic. With a robust support network and wide range of integrated services, we offer young people opportunities and encourage them to believe in themselves, feel a sense of belonging, and realise their own self-worth.
Job Purpose:
Kibble Education and Care Centre has an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Child and Youth Care Worker. This is a temporary post for 12 months. The post involves direct working with young people who, for a variety of reasons are unable to remain at home and who, at the instruction of a Children’s Hearing or a Court, must be accommodated by Kibble.
Main Duties:
To work with children and young people in a trauma informed way that must be tailored to the particular needs and requirements for each individual. Workers may be based in our secure, residential or community settings and be required to demonstrate commitment, flexibility and resilience in challenging situations within the environment. Working days and nights. This will be supported by appropriate training and support from a workplace mentor.
Worker Profile
During the 12 month programme you will be required to;
- Promote effective communication with children and young people in a way that promotes trust and involvement.
- Support the management of situations that involve challenging behaviour, promoting the health, well -being and rights of the young people at all times.
- Work in collaboration with parents/carers, internal and external agencies to understand the roles and responsibilities of all individuals, groups and organisations that are involved in the care of the young people.
- Demonstrate good communication skills both verbal, written and with a competent level of IT skills to undertake all administrative and other allied duties
- Promote group living as a positive experience through the planning, implementation and review of daily living programmes.
- Work to complete HNC qualification in Social Services which will provide an understanding of health, wellbeing and safeguarding, lifespan development, relevant legislation and the assessment and care planning process.
- Be willing and able to drive school transport therefore, a driving licence is essential.
- Manage and motivate self by using supervision with your work place mentor and mentoring co-ordinator to support all aspects of their development within the role and expect to take the lead in pursuing their own professional learning needs.

- The successful candidate will be subject to PVG Scheme Membership. Having previous convictions will not automatically disbar you from working at Kibble (with the exception of offences against children or other vulnerable groups) and every case is taken on an individual basis.
- The successful candidate will be required to undertake Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training and will require a level of fitness to be able to carry out SCM. The successful candidate must be able to participate fully in this training and be prepared to put this training into practice.
- The SCM training will consist of two days theory and two days physical training. The successful candidate must complete this training in full within four weeks of an agreed start date. Should the candidate for any reason fail any aspect of the SCM training (theory, physical or both parts), an additional two weeks will be given to pass.
- Appointments will be subject to a twelve-month probationary period.

Group Assessment: Monday 9th June 2025 (AM 9-12.30) or (PM 1-4.30)
1-1 Interviews: Wednesday 11th June 2025 (via Zoom).
