About The Role

Edinburgh - Kingsknowe area

20 - 30 hours per week

Shift pattern is day shifts, backshifts (with overnight support) and afternoon blocks 1.30pm-6.30pm across a 24/7 service.

Let us introduce you to Annie:

Annie lives in her own flat in Edinburgh and is supported to live independently .

Annie enjoys watching a variety of sports on TV including tennis, athletics, rugby, to name a few. She also enjoys going to Edinburgh and Scotland home rugby games with her stepdad. She regularly visits the local library to get both printed and audio books and frequently enjoys visits to the nearby Sainsbury’s for shopping and bargains!

Annie is a lovely young woman who loves spending time with her PA’s, she likes to chat and have a laugh with her staff. Annie has a wicked sense of humour and would like her staff to have a good sense of humour also.

Annie likes watching the news, movies and a variety of other programmes, particularly on Netflix and Disney, and she likes to talk about these. Christmas time is her favourite time of the year as she loves the atmosphere and of course Christmas movies which she tries to resist watching from September but usually fails. Music is also a particular interest of hers and she especially likes pop and rock and will enjoy watching music videos on her TV or computer.

Annie needs a dedicated team around her who are compassionate and person centred and who will respect her wishes. Annie would like a team who enjoys supporting her in these interests and be able to make her feel happy and safe whilst enabling her to live her best life! If this is you, we would love to hear from you.

That is why Annie needs you! Will you bring your best so that Annie can live her best live?

Are you interested in working for an award winning social care charity?

Personal Assistants (Support Workers) have the most important role within Enable by making a positive difference every day to the lives of the people we support. No two days are the same for our Personal Assistants but what we can guarantee is that you will be supporting someone with a learning disability to achieve their goals and outcomes – whatever they may be!

Each person we support has different support needs, so your role as Support Worker may include assisting them with various aspects of personal care, moving and handling or positive behavioural support whilst expanding their social networks and connections.

ENABLE creates a bespoke team around every individual we support, and our team of Personal Assistants work collaboratively to ensure the safety, wellbeing and aspirations of the people we support are met.

The Best in You Brings Out the Best in Me

The people we support have many varied interests and hobbies and have many of the same dreams and aspirations as we do; they just too often do not get the opportunity to experience these same opportunities. A career with Enable is as rewarding as it is diverse, Personal Assistants at their best have the potential to truly bring out the best in the people we support.

About You

If you think you share the same interests and have the commitment, dedication, and above all, desire to support Annie to get the most out of life; then please apply now!

Enable needs you and your values to help us create an equal society for every person who has a learning disability.

You don’t need experience in care to start your social care career with Enable. We recruit people based on their values and transferrable skills. Wherever your journey has taken you up until now, join us, and together we will forge a new path in what could potentially be the most rewarding role you have ever had!

About Us

Enable is a dynamic and vibrant organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and we are looking for motivated and driven individuals to join us in ensuring they have the same opportunities as everyone else.

We believe in developing all our staff and we provide an extensive learning programme together with in-house career development opportunities. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Person Centred approaches, planning and thinking
  • Introduction to autism
  • Epilepsy awareness
  • Moving and Handling
  • Adult support and protection
  • Child support and protection
  • First Aid
  • Positive Behaviour Support

We also have an excellent range of staff benefits on offer including but not limited to:

  • Health cash plans providing a wide range of health benefits to help people cover the cost of their everyday health care.
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Cycle to Work Scheme*
  • Season Ticket Loans*

Starting a career with Enable is the first step towards making a real difference in our award-winning charity’s mission to help create an equal society for every person who has a learning disability.

Enable is an equal opportunities employer and our recruitment, selection and assessment process is based entirely on values, skills and competencies required of the specific roles.

Note: The successful applicant will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 3 months of their start date.
