Full Job Description

SSEN Transmission are currently seeking a highly motivated and suitably experienced Consents and Environment Manager to support the development and delivery of major, large-scale terrestrial Transmission infrastructure. You will work on iconic National infrastructure projects directly facilitating Scotland's ambitions to meet NetZero through the transmission of renewable energy.

You will join an award-winning team recognised for our sector leading planning and sustainability initiatives. Reporting to a Senior Consents and Environment Manager, there will be a high level of autonomy for your projects with the benefit of experienced support and guidance provided through the wider Team.

Key responsibilities for the roles will include:

- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team to deliver Nationally significant electricity infrastructure projects from feasibility to achieving development consents (Town & Country Planning Act, Electricity Act and other environmental consents), and supporting our delivery teams through construction.

- Negotiating challenging consent conditions with statutory authorities and submitting robust supporting information.

- Lead on and coordinate project optioneering and environmental studies to ensure all environmental and consenting risks are understood and incorporated into the development and refinement of project designs. Undertake environmental compliance monitoring and auditing.

- Oversee and manage external consultants to deliver proportionate and robust Environmental Impact Assessments to support consent applications.

- Develop, control and build mutually beneficial external stakeholder relationships (consenting bodies, statutory authorities, key consultees and government departments)., At SSEN Transmission, we take immense pride in owning and operating the high-voltage electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport energy from where it is generated to wherever it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all - we're committed to upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown energy for the future. By developing, building and maintaining a network for net zero, we're creating secure power for generations to come.

A working knowledge of the Scottish planning process, relevant consenting regimes and Environmental Impact Assessment legislation, and an understanding and experience of working in the Scottish rural environment.

- Demonstrable Project Management skills and experience of how to manage the delivery of consenting and environmental compliance for major projects (e.g., project definition and set up, procurement and management of consultants, cost management, project risk, quality assurance and programme management).

- You will have an Environmental or Planning related degree, preferably with post graduate qualification coupled with experience in a relevant industry (e.g., infrastructure, environmental / planning/ statutory body/ consultancy dealing with major consenting projects). Membership of an appropriate planning or environmental professional body is also desirable.

- Knowledge and experience of infrastructure construction processes including Ground Investigation, earthworks, drainage and access works.

- A willingness to contribute, adapt, and learn within a busy, fast-moving team, dealing with challenges and opportunities across an extensive workload. Innovation and new ideas are welcomed where they can add value and improve the consenting approach and will be rewarded with good opportunities for long term career progressions within this key sector
