Full Job Description

As part of SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we are looking for an Assistant HVDC Engineering Manager to help drive forward our projects and who can bring big ideas, new skills and innovative thinking to help us grow our teams to successfully deliver a network for Net Zero.

Many of the Pathway to 2030 projects are new HVDC projects. This role would sit in within the HVDC Engineering Team, and although direct HVDC experience would be very desirable it is not essential.

You will

- Work with the Project Engineering Manager, responsible for delivery of HVDC Engineering scope (Large Capital Projects Gate 1 to Gate 4) for assigned project / package (typical value £700M - £2000M)

- Have general Project Co-ordination responsibilities, including chairing meetings with HVDC OEMs and other project stakeholders, organising design reviews and other technical sessions such as HAZID/HAZOP/HAZCON.

- Assume direct line management of project engineers and responsible for the co-ordination of all engineering activities, including the selection and management of engineering consultants, and the technical direction of contractors.

- Ensure that project technical requirements are clearly and robustly communicated to project teams, and that project teams understand the requirement to refer technical issues to engineering. Responsible for early identification of technology elements requiring Technical Authority approval, and preparing the plan for TA approval, in conjunction with the technical team.

- Promote and manage safety within project portfolio, including Safety in Design, implementation of CDM procedures and Principal Designer (PD) practice, with Project Manager, and review of construction methods (RAMS) and commissioning and operational safety requirements.

- Be responsible for Design Management Plans, Engineering Works Information, scheduling of Design Reviews and ensuring competent project technical leadership (in conjunction with Project Engineering Manager and the Technical Authority).

A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (preferably Electrical and CEng) coupled with significant experience leading multi-discipline teams.

- Good technical knowledge of the Transmission network, with technical understanding of core elements, and high-level technical understanding of facilitating functions and an understanding of legal and regulatory obligations for Transmission.

- In depth technical knowledge of relevant legislation and the implications for Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including CDM and ESQCR.

SSE has a bold ambition - to be a leading energy company in a net zero world. We're transforming the grid to provide greener electricity for millions of people and investing over £20 billion in homegrown energy, with £20 billion more in the pipeline.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport energy from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all - we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown energy for the future and building a network for net zero to create secure power for generations to come.

Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available, Enjoy discounts on private healthcare and gym memberships. Wellbeing benefits like a free online GP and 24/7 counselling service. Interest-free loans on tech and transport season tickets, or a new bike with our Cycle to Work scheme.
