Full Job Description

Main Purpose of the Role

Working within Perth & Kinross Council is more than a job, it's about being part of something meaningful. It's about being part of an organisation that puts people at the heart of all we do and provides opportunities to make a real difference by enhancing every life we touch.

We currently have the following opportunity:

Biodiversity Initiatives Officer, Grow Wild (Fixed Term until 31 March 2027) - PKC12567
£31,984 - £35,100
Pullar House, Perth

The successful post-holder will be working closely with communities and partners to rollout our Grow Wild Project, bringing together biodiversity towns, and villages, food growing and enhancing biodiversity in our Parks and Open Spaces.

This will be a varied role and will help the Council achieve its biodiversity gains target.

Skills & Experience Required

You must have a minimum HND or equivalent in environmental management, ecology or in an environmental subject or related discipline for responsibilities to be undertaken or significant, appropriate equivalent experience in a work-related discipline.

Your skills, abilities and experience should include experience in a work-related discipline with proven experience in the areas relevant to the post.

Knowledge and understanding of working with the voluntary sector and successfully delivering environmental improvement projects/schemes, including an understanding of Health & Safety legislation and preparation of Risk Assessments is required.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of biodiversity (especially species and habitats, including nature networks and habitat connections), together with a working knowledge or experience in wildlife gardening and urban biodiversity.

Communication skills are important as you will be expected to work with a variety of people including community groups and  other stakeholders.

You will have experience of developing management plans and/or Action Plans, including transferring the local community's wishes to workable on-the-ground projects that suit all audiences.

Experience in organising involvement in national biological surveys and campaigns, together with experience of basic biodiversity data collection, collation and analysis is required.

You will be articulate with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to cope calmly with all situations.

Experience of preparing communications, including E-News, social media and end-of-project reporting is required.

You will have knowledge of biodiversity (especially species and habitats, including habitat connections) and experience of basic biodiversity data collection, collation and analysis.

Excellent organisational and PR skills are essential with the ability to manage a diverse workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.

You will be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

You will have experience using GIS/StoryMap (or a willingness to undergo training).

You must have a valid driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
