Modern Apprentice – Early Years Practitioner - fixed term until 29/6/2027
City Wide.  10 posts.

Salary: £24,909 - £25,116 per year (pro rata for sessional)
Hours: 36 per week, 39 weeks sessional

Achieving an SVQ3 (SCQF Level 7) – Social Services (Children and Young People)

• Left school in the years 2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025 or
• you are currently on a City of Edinburgh Council employability training programme or
• you are aged up to 29 years of age with a disability or
• you are aged up to 29 years of age and Care Experienced/a Care Leaver

Play is evident in Scottish education policy and curriculum guidance. In June 2023, the Scottish Government published the first National Strategy for Play, which is defined as follows:

“Play encompasses children’s behaviour which is freely chosen, personally directed and intrinsically motivated. It is performed for no external goal or reward and is a fundamental and integral part of healthy development which seeks to improve play experiences for all children.”

The Post is open to applicants who have left High School in the last three years or are aged up to 29 with a disability or are care experienced. We particularly welcome applications from underrepresented groups and those who have successfully completed the Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services Children and Young People.

Please note that MA Work placements will be anywhere within the City of Edinburgh Council geographical area.

Interviews will take place end April 2025

Anticipated start date for successful candidates: 11 August 2025

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
