MAC Recruit Group Accountancy & Finance Division are delighted to be supporting Golden Charter in their search to appoint their new Head of Regulatory Compliance, on a full-time, permanent basis in a predominantly remote role.

Reporting into the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, the Head of Regulatory Compliance will be responsible for leading regulatory compliance support across all of Golden Charter’s activities amidst significant business changes. It involves providing specialist compliance advice to stakeholders, ensuring adherence to evolving regulations related to funeral plans, and supporting the organisation’s changes driven by regulation, strategy, product development, and continuous improvement. Key areas of the role will surround:

Champion Golden Charter’s compliance culture by ensuring that customer-centric compliance is at the heart of the business and demonstrating the highest standards of regulatory behaviour across all activities
Interpret relevant legislation and FCA rules, developing creative and robust policies, and working closely with Learning and Development to source and deliver necessary training on processes to achieve compliance with FCA regulations, and other relevant regulations
Lead compliance support to maintain FCA authorisation, working closely with specialist compliance suppliers to ensure all required activities are identified, delivered, and meet regulatory standards. This includes influencing, directing, and coaching internal teams to ensure ongoing compliance
Provide expert advice from specialist suppliers across the regulatory field, ensuring that Golden Charter’s compliance and regulatory policies and procedures align with best practices and internal standards
Support the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer by providing responses and guidance when interacting with regulatory bodies, particularly the FCA, ensuring the business meets its obligations
Lead compliance input into business projects, working with stakeholders to ensure that business solutions are in line with the regulatory framework and Golden Charter’s risk appetite, while ensuring all regulatory requirements are considered during the project planning phase
Lead the Complaints Team, developing processes, reporting, and skills to support the team’s strategic impact, ensuring efficient handling of customer and funeral director complaints
Develop and maintain Golden Charter’s compliance policies, processes, and systems across all activities, ensuring they remain in full compliance with FCA regulations and adapting as necessary for new projects and changing business requirements
Provide compliance input into Change team meetings, including gathering requirements, planning, and risk assessments, to ensure that solutions are designed to be sustainable, robust, and fully compliant
Proactively raise and support mitigating action plans for identifying and addressing regulatory risks, ensuring that the business remains compliant in all areas
Provide legal and regulatory horizon scanning in conjunction with lawyers, offering insights and advice to those holding Significant Management Functions and Certified Roles in the business, ensuring the company stays ahead of regulatory developments
Support the development of regulatory awareness across all staff, collaborating with Learning and Development and HR to ensure that compliance training is effectively delivered, fostering the right behaviours and attitudes towards compliance throughout the organisation
Contribute to the continued development of the regulatory framework for funeral plans, ensuring Golden Charter remains at the forefront of industry changes and influences future regulations in a positive way

To be successful in this role, the following experience is required:

Compliance qualification or relevant business experience
Experience with FCA regulation (essential)
Ability to present and influence audiences at all levels (essential)
Strong IT literacy
Exceptional influencing skills & communication skills
