Vacancy Information

The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). Part-time hours / sessional posts will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £14.09 - £15.14
This is a 38-week sessional post i.e., working hours will be during school term time only.

Days and hours of work:
Monday - Thursday, 08:25-15:45
Friday, 08:25-11:50

Ross High School is a co-educational, non-denominational school situated in Tranent, East Lothian approximately 12 miles from the centre of Edinburgh. The school roll is currently 1252 pupils although this is due to increase over the next few years. The school has good facilities for students and is continually looking for ways to broaden the learning environment out with the school, working together with partners within the community. An extension to the school is planned to increase the school’s capacity to 1350.

Ross High School has been designated as the ELC provision for pupils of secondary age who have Complex Support Needs.

This post provides an exciting opportunity to join a caring and creative team working with pupils with severe and complex needs.

The role is to support the personal, physical, medical and nutritional needs of young people with complex additional support needs.

Provide support to pupils to access learning in all areas of the curriculum as led by the class teacher and other visiting professionals

Work closely with pupils to carry out actions and supports from Individualised Education Plans developed by class teachers, in conjunction with therapists, and Coordinated Support Plans, personal care plans etc .

Assist with the preparation of classroom materials, keeping the classroom areas tidy, safe and ready for learning.

Develop a knowledge and awareness of individual pupils and their capabilities and highlight/discuss any issues which will assist the class team in the child planning process.

Skills/experience that would be beneficial -

- experience of working with people with additional support needs of any age in any setting

- experience of supporting young people in an educational setting or another setting

- experience of working with young people

- first aid training

- experience in delivering personal care plans or dealing with health support plans

- understanding or experience of autism or other communication disorders

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Good standard of general education.
Experience of working with or caring for children with additional support needs.

NURSERY ONLY: SSSC registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are 
appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration within 3 months of your start date to ensure that you are registered within the required 6 months.
