Full Job Description

An opportunity has become available to join Seol Trust, Ruskin Mill Trust, as part of the committed day time support team focusing on the holistic needs of the participants. This role can be both physically and emotionally demanding, and you must have the confidence and patience to manage the challenging behaviours that the participants we work with can present. You will be required to support and guide participants to access their programme of activities and to be aware of and promote their welfare during the day. The majority of the activities take place outside on our 60-acre site and include a wide range of physical tasks associated with horticulture, woodland and site management, animal husbandry, catering, and crafts. This role may include working part of the week on a 1:1 with participants and the remainder of the week supporting other participants. This role can be extremely rewarding as you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals. To be successful in this role you will

  • Have a strong desire to support adults at risk, have excellent observational skills, and the ability to problem-solve and think creatively to enable participants to reimagine their potential
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage emotionally challenging situations with emotional intelligence and resilience, and to have the capacity to react calmly in stressful situations
  • Be able to supervise and support participants throughout the day, both in sessions and during unstructured time
  • Encourage and engage participants to attend planned sessions and to help them become engaged in the planned activities
  • Have a sense of humour, an ability to build successful and positive relationships when individuals are disengaged all whilst maintaining professional boundaries without being directive and have some flexibility in your approaches to working with participants.
  • Navigate and appropriately respond to ever changing interpersonal dynamics
  • Support Adult Protection procedures by reporting quickly and effectively any disclosures to the Seol Trust Adult Protection Team
  • Have knowledge of specialist care and support and experience of working with adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour

Working at Ruskin Mill Trust is incredibly rewarding; we offer competitive salaries and holiday allowances, an auto-enrolment pension scheme with a salary sacrifice option, a health cash plan and employee assistance programme via Medicash.
  • In addition, staff receive valuable training opportunities including an in-depth interactive induction to enable our new team members to experience our Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) curriculum and also opportunities for further training and academic research including our own MSc in Practical Skills Therapeutic Education.
