Food Safety Officer

Hybrid working with base in Dumfries or Stranraer

£37,596 - £40,356 (up to 36 hours per week)

Are you looking for a new challenge?

If you have a good understanding of food hygiene and enjoy working with businesses and the public, then the Environmental Health team would love you to join them in this exciting new role.

This role involves the inspection of business premises to check for compliance with food safety laws and to give advice, as well as the investigation of food-related complaints from members of the public.

Ideally, we are looking for someone who has the REHIS Higher Certificate in Food Practice but would be happy to train the right candidate who has a food science or technology qualification at SCQF level 8.

You will assist in the registration process for new businesses and contribute to the certification process for exported foods.

You must have good IT skills and the ability to use a digital platform for data entry and retrieval. You will need a driving licence and have good time management skills and the ability to work under pressure, dealing with all sorts of food related issues in a professional manner.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

There may be an occasional need to work unsocial hours to fit in with food operator business times but there may also be flexibility to adopt a work pattern that suits you.
