Full Job Description

The role involves a hybrid work arrangement, including home, office, and on-site locations. As Head of Care, you will work to provide leadership to the team across all care matters, develop best practice across all services, and ensure professional development. You will be reportable to the Managing Director. You will be a member of the strategic team and involved in developing the business, including the addition of new services. You will ensure all care services are supported in all areas, including quality and compliance, to develop and achieve excellent standards. The Head of Care is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and delivery of high-quality care services to children within a residential setting in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in Scotland. The role involves ensuring the well-being, safety, and development of children in care, as well as providing strong leadership to the care team. As Greenleaf expands to England, the Head of Care will need good understanding of regulations and best practice for children's services both in Scotland and England. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision and operational plan for the delivery of high-quality residential childcare services, aligned with the company's mission and values.
  • Provide inspirational leadership and direction to the care team, promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence in care delivery.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and best practice standards to meet regulatory requirements and industry benchmarks.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and national care standards governing residential childcare services in Scotland.
  • Monitor and review policies and procedures to reflect changes in legislation and best practice guidelines, implementing necessary updates in a timely manner.
  • Oversee internal quality assurance mechanisms, including audits, inspections, and performance reviews, to maintain high standards of care and regulatory compliance.
  • Staff Management and Development:
  • Recruit, train, and support a team of care professionals, providing clear direction, supervision, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement, promoting the development of staff competencies and skills to enhance the quality of care provision.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff members in managing complex cases and challenging situations, ensuring effective safeguarding and risk management practices.
  • Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, regulatory bodies, partner agencies, and funding partners.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to promote integrated care pathways, facilitate multi-agency working, and improve outcomes for children and young people in care.
  • Represent the company at relevant forums, conferences, and networking events, advocating for the rights and interests of children in residential care.
  • Financial and Resource Management:
  • Work closely with the senior management team to develop and manage annual budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and financial sustainability.
  • Monitor expenditure against budgetary targets, identifying opportunities for cost savings, income generation, and service enhancement.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management and the board of directors on financial performance, operational challenges, and strategic priorities.

  • A relevant professional qualification in Social Work, Social Care, or a related field, with significant experience in a leadership role within residential childcare services.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures governing children's services in Scotland, including the National Care Standards for Residential Child Care.
  • Experience and knowledge of children's services in England is desired.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning, operational management, and quality assurance within a residential childcare setting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team of professionals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to build effective partnerships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared goals and objectives.
