Full Job Description

Barnardo's Highland are looking for an Individual to work across a Residential Service (Northern Lights) and A Through Care and AfterCare Service (Springboard)

Northern Lights is a beautiful home on the outskirts of Inverness providing a safe, warm and supportive environment for up to five young people who have had adverse childhood experiences.

The service seeks to improve the lives of these Children and Young people through the use of a rights based, trauma informed approach. The team working with the children will enrich their lives through care, support and activities which will be aimed at raising self-esteem, promoting a sense of mastery, and enabling the children to access experiences that are individually tailored to their interests and nurture their talents. The team will work with the wider partnership to ensure that Educational and Health needs are met.

Due to the nature of the service, it is vital that individuals are flexible and responsive to the needs of the children they are supporting.

Springboard is commissioned by the Highland Council to provide a throughcare and aftercare service to young people aged 16-26 years who are leaving care in Highland.

The successful applicant will work directly with young people who are moving on from Northern Lights, supporting them to achieve their full potential. They will be required to have strong assessment skills and experience in report writing and recording. You will be required to asses need and co-ordinate a plan of support for young people, offering advice and guidance to enable young people to work towards agreed outcomes to aid the transition to independence. Experience of managing a caseload would also be preferable.

These outcomes may be in relation to:-

  • Transition planning
  • Having their own accommodation
  • Training/education/employment
  • Being a good parent
  • Ensure the emotional needs of young people are being met
  • Knowledge on ACE's and Trauma would also be beneficial

You must meet the requirements for the SSSC (HNC/Social care) or equivalent.

Therefore the successful candidate will respond to young people's needs and offer holistic support, either within the young person's care setting or their accommodation.
