Full Job Description

Workstrands will develop in line with Civil Service People Priorities and the CS People Data and Analytics Strategy. Typical examples of activities include:

  • Generating and presenting insights on the changing shape, size and makeup of the Civil Service workforce, through combining datasets and external benchmarking
  • Develop and maintain a workforce data stock pack, in the form of charts and supporting narrative, to be used by the team and wider GPG colleagues for briefing and reporting purposes
  • Building relationships with data owners/providers to deliver timely and accurate responses to workforce data requests, and working with them to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of data commissions
  • Working with the Strategic Workforce Planning team to provide analysis and monitoring of departmental workforce plans
  • Developing a suite of products which bring together and raise visibility of workforce data to inform people strategies and decisions
  • Identifying gaps in the current workforce data provision and developing and plans to deliver improvements, linked to the People Data and Analytics Strategy
  • Embedding forward looking workforce intelligence into existing workforce reporting to provide a clear workforce narrative to senior leaders
  • Working with the teams SEO analyst to drive implementation of the Civil Service People Data & Analytics Strategy, including through engagement with the cross-government People Data & Analytics Delivery Group
  • Representing the team at cross-government meetings and forums, such as the People Data & Analytics Delivery Group, sharing and exchanging information on opportunities and activities in the People Analytics space in departments and other functions.

The Workforce Data and Department Intel Team (within Workforce Strategy, Data and Planning), lead on developing a comprehensive picture of the changing size and shape of the Civil Service workforce. We provide accessible data products for a range of audiences, which are used to inform people decisions, strategies, and support strategic workforce planning activities across government. The team is seeking an HEO to lead a range of workforce data and analytics activities. Typical activities involve conducting analysis on cross-government workforce data; developing a suite of products which bring together and raise visibility of workforce data to inform people strategies and decisions; and acting as a single point of contact on workforce data and building relationships with data owners to deliver timely and accurate responses to workforce data requests. The small team plays a key role in bringing structure and raising visibility of the workforce data landscape in the Civil Service and driving improvements to how workforce data is used to inform strategy and workforce planning. This provides the opportunity for the successful candidate to play a role in shaping priorities, build links with teams across government and to develop innovative solutions to how we use data.
