Midlothian

Midlothian Council’s Economic Development Service manages the Local Business Support element of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this role is on a fixed term basis to 31/03/2026 due to programme funding.

The role will support internal and external customers, manage end to end projects and grant applications therefore experience of customer service is essential to ensure effective and efficient communications with stakeholders.

There is the possibility that the post will be extended but this is dependant on external funding.

Essential

A degree or equivalent is desirable and HND or equivalent experience is required, as is relevant knowledge of the public sector

Experience of leading and managing to ensure that the service works effectively and efficiently to meet financial and performance targets and have a proven track record in being able to work collaboratively with others and taking personal responsibility; the ability to deal with conflict using tact, sensitivity and diplomacy; the ability to act on own initiative; the ability to act decisively across a range of business growth or employability skills and expertise.

Knowledge of procurement legislation such as Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2012 and of Council Contracts Standing Orders is desirable. The post holder should also have a sound understanding of the essential documentation associated with the tendering and issue of contracts.

A level of commercial acumen is essential and will be expected to demonstrate excellent negotiation skills.

Contract or service experience essential.

The jobholder must have:

Written and verbal communication skills.

Problem solving skills.

Ability to deal with complaints and challenges as they arise in an effective manner.

Interpersonal skills.

Able to work independently using own initiative ensuring at all times good communications with manager.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.

Ability to prioritise own workload and work to tight timescales.

Flexible and innovative in approach and able to deal with often changing priorities with little notice.

Accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work are critical.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £30,243.53 per annum.

Requirements

Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard.
