Full Job Description
We are looking for a Lead Product Data Manager to join the BBC's newly formed Channels and User Behavioural Events team, inside our Product Data Domain function. As a Lead Product Data Manager, you will be responsible for the vision, strategy and roadmap for your domain area. On a day-to-day basis, you'll be working with key business stakeholders to understand their data requirements and ensure alignment across our data products suite. You will play a pivotal part in defining how we collect, manage, and use data to ensure key data and metrics are delivered about the BBC's digital channels. Key to this role is being able to articulate the business impact and high impact use cases and help lead cross-functional teams to realise the business impact. You will be expected to work across multiple parts of the BBC's digital product suite. There is no one size fits all to your background. You might have work in data product management, product management, or worked in Product Ops functions. What we are looking for is someone who has delivered strategy and roadmaps for data products at scale, and with a deep expertise in analytical data. Meet the Channels and User Behavioural Events Team Our Channels and User Behavioural Events (CUBE) team are a multi-disciplinary team of web/mobile tracking implementation specialists, analytics and data engineers. We are responsible for the accurate measurement of our user interactions on our digital channels, including web, mobile, TV and smart speaker devices. We are also responsible for working with our wider device partners on better understanding our audience interactions in the wider device user experience and ecosystem.Responsibilities You will:
- Define the product data vision, strategy and roadmap for your domain based in alignment with business goals at the Product Group and pan-BBC level
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their data needs and align the delivery and output of the team with those needs
- Personally or through the team, be an expert in a data domain and communicate regularly with technical, operational, editorial and product staff.
- Collaborate with other teams across the BBC on strategic and division level projects and initiatives
- Drive innovation in data product development and identifying new opportunities through close collaboration with key stakeholders such as our product management function
- Lead in ROI measurement based for data product initiatives, based on cost/benefit analysis and similar evaluation techniques.
- Set clear KPIs and metrics to measure data product success for high-impact business decisions and drive data-driven decision making
- Develop and extend data models and other data structures based on business needs and requirements
- Work with technical leaders in the broader organisation to define, document and distribute best practice and standards
- Oversee the entire data product lifecycle, from ideation and development to launch and post-launch optimisation
- Work with Data Governance, Information Security and Privacy colleagues to develop and maintain data standards
- Lead the articulation of data quality, data lineage, data security compliance for the domain you are responsible for
- Recruit, mentor and manage an effective data teams

- Technical or data focused background or experience of working in highly technical products
- Strong leadership and people management experience
- Ability to think strategically and able to understand how data can be used to deliver improved business decision making and drive product development
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong experience of leading cross-functional teams to deliver clear business outcomes
